Project overview
A major UK construction materials producer needed a full roof replacement on the silo head house building at one of their sites in West Yorkshire. An inspection identified extreme water ingress through the existing, ageing roof, and the complexity of the job was significant – extreme height, existing asbestos sheeting, and a fragile, sharp-pitched roof structure that ruled out straightforward access.
What we did
Rather than the client coordinating several separate contractors for access, safety and roofing work, our team delivered the entire project under one fixed-price package. This included a full CDM and health & safety plan with a dedicated contract manager assigned throughout, and a combination of access methodologies – rope access, mobile elevated platforms, scaffolding and safety netting – chosen to suit the different areas of the building safely and efficiently. The existing asbestos sheeting was managed in line with safety requirements before the new roof was installed.
Results
The project was completed safely, on time, and within budget, with the client managing a single point of contact throughout rather than juggling multiple trades and schedules. The finished roof resolved the water ingress issues that prompted the original inspection, and the fixed-price, single-contractor approach avoided the coordination problems that often come with large-scale industrial roofing projects.
"It was a memorable project to complete – carried out for a site manager marking the end of a long career on site, delivered safely and to schedule from start to finish."
